Fall League Wrap-up
Hello VOTS members,
We just recently wrapped up another Fall League. Thank you for all who participated and supported VOTS through the last couple months. We recently sent out a survey to you all and the board has reviewed the responses.
Now, here are some of the issues that people would like us to address and the actions we are working on that address those concerns.
Transparency has been mentioned as an area of improvement for VOTS leadership. We will be putting together some official procedures for the different duties we handle while running league such as jerseys, subbing, drafting, league finals, etc.
Thank you again for being a part of the community and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
Jose

We are starting a 4-week youth ultimate league on Thursday nights at 6–7:30PM at the Reata Sports Complex (9809 E. McDowell Mountain Ranch Road, Scottsdale, AZ). Below are the dates and field information:
Cost: Free
Anyone 16 years old or younger is welcome to join. While there is no minimum age requirement per se, I would ask each parent for our younger participants to please use their best judgment in deciding how early they want to start playing in a league.
Ideally, we will get at least 30 participants and split them into 4 different teams based on age and skill level (in an effort to make teams as evenly matched as possible). The format will be 5v5 with a couple of subs in each team.

My name is Angelo and I am working on creating an ultimate youth program for kids here in the valley. The main idea is to offer a youth league, similar to the adult league with VOTS each season, for all kids aged 8-16 who may want to play ultimate recreationally. Ideally, we would get enough participants to have at least two teams in each age groups so they can scrimmage together throughout the season.
To jumpstart this initiative and gage participation, I would like to host two separate youth clinics (i.e. drills, fun games, scrimmage, etc...) as follows:
I believe we can get a decent turnout for these youth clinics and potentially offer a youth league soon after (as early as late Fall 2024). VOTS is open to the idea of running the youth league at 6-7:30PM on the same day and at the same field as the adult league.
Another idea is to build a club team at middle/high schools throughout the valley. Once we get enough ultimate club teams, we could host a state championship for all club teams to participate in and eventually put an AZ under 17 team ready for the Youth Club Championship every year. To do so, creating a system detailing how a volunteer coach would get started from reaching out to their school of choice to implementing an effective strategy to teach ultimate would be important.
I need your help with all of this. As passionate as I am with creating a youth ultimate scene for our kids, I cannot do it all alone. Hence please reach out to me if you have any feedback, or have experience in doing something similar in another city or maybe in a different sport, or know someone you can introduce me to who may be willing to help, or simply want to help with brainstorming/creating/developing these programs, I am all ears! You can email me at doc_roule@yahoo.com
Thank you,
Angelo
From Laura Tan:
We had a great time at Spokes last week (3/12) for our first VOTS Chat. We had 19 people show (10 M/9 F) and there were a ton of great ideas.
I want to capture the two biggest themes I heard:
What Now
First, I want to explicitly call out that the kind of change we are looking for takes time. If we want a change to last beyond a single fall or spring season, or beyond a specific league or tournament director, we have to set up infrastructure to get the outcome we want.
What we need to design at this stage are processes that allow for the people's ideas to be considered by the community, and clear paths for people to act on those ideas.
I'll put the word out once we have something more concrete to work with on the above. For now, keep incubating your good ideas. Jam out on the Discord, or talk with your teammates and friends. Poke holes in your ideas to see if they could actually work :)
