VOTS Women’s Ultimate LeagueBeginners Welcome!League Information | Teams | Schedule & Results | League Rules What is Women’s League?Ultimate Frisbee League is a women’s only league offered by Valley of the Sun Ultimate Association (VOTS). The goal of league is twofold:
What is Ultimate Frisbee?Ultimate Frisbee is a high energy, non-contact team sport. It combines elements of many different sports including soccer, basketball, and football. Ultimate is played on a rectangular shaped field with end zones shaped like football end zones. Each team consists of seven players. The disc is passed from teammate to teammate (there is no running/walking with the disc) until somebody catches the disc in the end zone for a score. When & Where are games held?Thursday nights ***Teams play 1 game per week*** Who can play? This is primarily an adult league, open to women ages 18 and up. Players who are 16-18 can sign up but must submit a signed parental waiver with their registration. Players under 16 are not eligible to play. To be eligible, players must turn 16 years of age before the end of league (July 19, 2007). Do I need to have a team to sign up?Nope! All players sign up as individuals and are placed on teams in a manner which evens out the number of beginner, intermediate, and advanced players per team. Do I need to know how to play?Absolutely not! In fact, you don't even need to know how to throw a disc. We teach all new players the rules and strategies of Ultimate as well as the basic throws. As a new player, you (along with other new players) will be placed on a team with other moderate to experienced players who will show you the ropes and teach you the game. Is there anyplace to play before league starts?Yes! There is a FREE women’s clinic on May 31, just before league starts! This is a great place to learn to play or to improve your ultimate skills. There will also be a women's open play at Benedict Park on June 7th. Additionally, there are a number of open, beginner-friendly, pickup games in the area. Info on those can be found at VOTS.org and the Phoenix Women's Ultimate site. What do I need to play? You will need to bring:
How much does league cost?Registration is now closed. Anything else?
