This instructional league is offered by Valley of the Sun Ultimate Association (VOTS). This four week coed league is focused on learning all aspects of Ultimate Frisbee, including throwing, catching, and the basics of offensive and defensive strategies. Each session will begin with some warm-up exercises and drills, throwing, and eventually scrimmages to work on new skills. This is a great opportunity to learn fundamentals, get some exercise, meet new people, and have fun while you're at it!
Ultimate Frisbee is a high energy, non-contact team sport. It combines elements of many different sports including soccer, basketball, and football. Ultimate is played on a rectangular shaped field with end zones shaped like football end zones. Each team consists of seven players. The disc is passed from teammate to teammate (there is no running/walking with the disc) until somebody catches the disc in the end zone for a score.
The league is open to all, but is geared for novice players. Novice players include brand new players as well as players who simply want to gain a better understanding of the game. You do not need a team to sign up. Teams will be formed to allow games to be played.
Bring sneakers or non-metal cleats and clothing comfortable for running. It is essential that you bring a light colored shirt and a dark colored shirt each week, so we can divide into teams. Please make sure you are dressed warmly enough that you can stay warm while we explain drills, rules, and strategy. Bring a water bottle to make sure you stay hydrated. Every brand new player will receive a Frisbee, but all players should try and bring a Frisbee to each session (preferably an official USA Ultimate Ultrastar 175g Frisbee and not a Whamo).
This instructional league is comprised of four sessions, every Thursday evening in January 6-8 pm. Jan. 5th's session is at Arredondo Sports Complex, Field #1. Jan. 12th 19th & 26th will be at Benedict, Field #3.
Registration is now closed.
Don't worry about missing a week; one of the coaches will be happy to help you catch up the following week.
